Adult Companies, Performers Embrace Kindle Publishing
YNOT – Will Amazon’s Kindle e-reader be the next frontier conquered by the adult entertainment industry?
Believe it or not, the idea is not far-fetched. Within the past year, e-reader ownership has increased exponentially even among literary snobs, and Amazon’s device leads the pack. According to a posting on Amazon’s blog, in the three weeks preceding Christmas, the company sold more than 1 million Kindles per week.
For companies and individuals who possess an entrepreneurial spirit and are accustomed to dealing with website construction, self-publishing for Kindle distribution represents a unique opportunity. Amazon makes the process relatively simple and painless for those with a modicum of knowledge, and Amazon offers tutorials about e-book creation and promotion, plus the tools to accomplish both, so even rank novices have a chance to succeed.
That’s exactly what adult performer Rebecca Love hopes to do with her sassy memoir, Rebecca Love’s Porn Star Experience: Tales from the Set. Published Dec. 22 by indie press Grindhouse Publishing, The collection of 11 stories is always sexy, often funny and occasionally touching. The stories take readers behind the scenes with adult industry personalities including Pat Myne, Sunrise Adams, Billy Glide, Ginger Lynn, Chris Cannon, Justin Slayer, Kelly Madison, Sky Blue, Tommy Gunn, Randy Spears, Mercedes and Malitia.
“What makes these stories so good is that readers have a chance to get inside the head and imagination of a woman [Love] who is beautiful on the outside and has maintained her sense of humor while getting down to get others off,” the promotional copy notes.
Woman-centric adult website Sssh.com also got into the Kindle act in December with Sex & the Inner Goddess, published in partnership with indie Blushing Books. The unabashedly frank and completely charming sex guide for women comprises the best columns, quizzes, articles and editorials published at Sssh.com over the past 12 years.
“Inner Goddess provides a wealth of original content, including practical questions women are too embarrassed to discuss with their girlfriends, easy decorating tips for a relaxing (and romantic) home environment and tasty menus for sex-inspiring meals,” promotional material notes.
Sssh.com founder Angie Rowntree indicated she thinks Kindle e-books constitute fertile ground for enterprising adult entertainment entrepreneurs.
“As an avid reader, I’ve taken to the Kindle and other digital readers like a fish to water, and I have been eager for quite a while to get our content into e-book form,” she said. “This may be our first e-book publishing venture, but it will not be our last.”
