Adult Companies Chip In for 2257 Legal Defense
CANOGA PARK, CA – The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) issued a press release yesterday recognizing a number of adult industry companies for their contributions and fundraising events to benefit the 2257 Legal Defense Fund. The fund was set up earlier this year to raise donations specifically to help pay for the FSC legal challenge to the revised federal labeling and record keeping laws. The Porn Poker Tournament, held in August of this year at Internext in Florida, was sponsored by Camz.com, SammySmack.com, NetBilling, PluginFeeds, MrSkinCash, Eroticy.com, DatingGold.com and Jupiter Hosting. The winner of the tournament, who according to the FSC release wishes to remain anonymous, contributed all winnings to the 2257 Legal Defense Fund, as well.
Another fundraiser was held earlier this month at the Rainbows Festival, a gay and lesbian community street fair in downtown Phoenix, AZ. To raise awareness and support of the FSC, X-Factor put on a carnival game called “Buck A Duck,” in which visitors to their booth could donate a dollar and select a plastic duck floating in a tub. Some ducks had dots, which corresponded to DVDs, posters and other prizes donated by sponsoring studios, including All Worlds Video, Lucas Entertainment, Manplay and Titanmen.com. Every contestant received a brochure with information about the FSC, and a safer sex kit and locker pass donated by Elbow Grease lube and the Arizona Chute men’s club. All proceeds were donated to the FSC.
“Without the incredible effort of these companies to expend their time and resources on behalf of the 2257 legal challenge brought by the Free Speech Coalition,” said FSC Executive Director Michelle L. Freridge, “we simply would not be able to as effectively challenge the federal government in its campaign to impose unfair, unconstitutional and punitive regulations. We are humbled by these endeavors, and by the continuing interest of companies like these to help us drive home the message that this industry will not go down without a fight.”
The FSC is still seeking donations to the 2257 Legal Defense Fund, and welcomes additional fundraising efforts and events.
“We are available to help promote fundraising activities over the holiday season, and during upcoming trade events such as Webmaster Access West in November and the AEE/Internext tradeshow in Las Vegas in January 2006,” the FSC stated in their press release. Those interested in holding a fundraiser for the FSC and who would like help from the FSC in coordinating those efforts should contact FSC Trade Show Coordinator Valerie Vizmanos at val@freespeechcoalition.com.
