Adult Book Store Opponents Plant “Weapons of Mass Destruction” on Building
WALDO, FL — Apparently someone in the small town of Waldo, FL feels that violence is an appropriate method for expressing opposition to an adult bookstore that has set up shop in area.A bottle of unidentified but caustic and corrosive liquid was anchored to the Café Risque air conditioning unit on Saturday, but it was safely removed by deputies on Sunday before it could cause harm. Although designed to pump toxins into the building’s air supply, a neighbor spotted the device and reported it before anyone could enter the building and be harmed.
Located not far from Gainesville, the small Florida town’s residents are divided on whether they see the shop as a benign presence of one likely to accommodate the unnatural desires of what local Mary Ferrera calls “sex perverts.”
The attempted chemical attack came after Waldo residents opposed to the existence of the shop protested and prayed in an attempt to keep it from opening. Police believe that someone in the group turned to terrorism when non-violent means failed.
Richard Andrews, who owns a gun shop across the street from the soon-to-open shop, sees a similarity between it and his own business. “Just like if you don’t like guns,” he advises his fellow residents, “don’t frequent the store.”
Authorities are now on the look-out for whoever planted the device. If found, that individual faces a possible prison term of up to 30 years on domestic terrorism charges.
