Adobe Make-Over Hopes to Leverage Photoshop’s Popularity
SAN JOSE, CA — Adobe Systems software users with a love jonz for Photoshop can breath a dreamy sigh of relief now that the company plans to renovate its popular publishing applications so that they share a common basic design with Photoshop. The decision to transform the look and feel of its software applications is not a sudden impulse, nor does it come as a great surprise to those watching the company’s financial health. Once second-quarter revenue was projected to be below previous estimates, change seemed inevitable. Given the popularity of Photoshop, following its design lead is a logical step toward increased North American and European interest.
To spearhead the image overhaul, Adobe is releasing Creative Suite 3, which is designed with integration of features throughout the software bundle. In addition to including metadata tags, CS3 will include a new version of InDesign, which will now be able to import multiple images at once, have expanded transparency abilities – and features that mimic the popular Photoshop.
Chad Siegel, senior product manager for InSign explains that “Adobe’s strategy is to have the best solution on how to integrate products to streamline workflow, not to have one product to do everything, which seems to be the strategy of our competitor.”
The daring new look that hopes to seduce designers away from Quark will be available during spring of 2007, the same time that Photoshop and Creative Suite are released with Intel-based Macs.
