Adam & Eve: ‘Open Marriage’ Isn’t for Everyone
HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. – Attitudes about sexuality may have become more lenient in contemporary society, but the bonds of matrimony haven’t.
A new survey by adult products manufacturer and retailer Adam and Eve indicated the vast majority of Americans are not open to “open marriage.” Sometimes called “swinging,” the term is applied to marriages or relationships in which partners agree they may sex with others.
When Adam and Eve poll-takers asked more than 1,000 American adults whether they’d be willing to consider such an arrangement, 81 percent of women and 67 percent of men said “no.” Ten percent of women and 16 percent of men were unsure. Only 9 percent of women and 17 percent of men said “yes.” (Actually, the men probably said something like “hell yes.”)
“Current research shows that around 5% of the U.S. population are involved in open relationships,” said AdamAndEve.com sexpert Kat Van Kirk, PhD. “Open relationships are not for everyone, but it is encouraging to see that more and more people are open to the idea that sex — and relationships — do not follow a one-size-fits-all rule.”
According to Director of Marketing Chad Davis, “Adam and Eve is proud to provide a wide array of products to enhance lovemaking on any level. Our primary goal is to promote healthy sexuality between consenting adults.”
The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third-party survey company, was part of Adam and Eve’s ongoing study of sexual preferences and practices.
