Adam & Eve: Most Americans Rely on Web for Sex Info
YNOT – Seventy percent of American adults rely on the internet for answers to their questions about sex and sexuality, according to the results of Adam & Eve’s “Great American Sex Survey.” The results, released this month, demonstrate that despite the wealth of misinformation on the World Wide Web, people trust the medium as a research tool, employing the internet far more often than more traditional resources like doctors, friends and libraries.
Books emerged as the second most often turned-to resource, chosen by 23 percent of respondents. Men’s magazines (20 percent), friends (18 percent) and women’s magazines (17 percent) followed.
Resident Adam & Eve “sexpert” Dr. Kat Van Kirk said she sees the trend as a good thing.
“Never before has there been mass access to sex information in such an anonymous way,” Van Kirk said. “People can feel comfortable getting educated about sexuality in the comfort of their own home. Luckily, there are many reputable websites available for sex information.”
Chad Davis, marketing director for Adam & Eve, agreed.
“The internet can be a valuable tool for gaining all types of knowledge,” he said. “We encourage adults to consider AdamAndEve.com as their source for all types of sexual information. Our site has pertinent information on every product category to help consumers decide what product is best for them.”
The web-based survey of more than 1,000 American adults age 18 and older, was conducted by an independent third-party survey company on behalf of Adam & Eve as part of the company’s ongoing effort to study sexual preferences and practices.
