Active Duty Buddies
MONTREAL – The industry just got a little smaller…again.
On Thursday, Gamma Entertainment division Buddy Profits gained a new niche when it acquired Dink Flamingo’s venerable military-fetish site Active Duty, along with the affiliate program Flamingo Bucks.
Founded in August 1998, Active Duty features what Flamingo has always called “real, amateur all-American military guys” in hardcore and solo videos. Things won’t change much under Buddy Profits’ ownership, spokesmen for both companies said: Active Duty will continue to release two new updates weekly.
Active Duty joins two other high-profile acquisitions in Gamma’s gay stable: Next Door Studios and Pride Studios. Together, the three offer 24 websites, 12 weekly updates and a library of more than 7,000 exclusive videos, according to Stephan Sirard, president of the Gamma division that operates the Canadian Company’s gay operations.
“I am very pleased that Dink has agreed that Buddy Profits is best able to ensure the continuity of his labor of love and the ongoing growth of the Active Duty brand,” Sirard said. “I have a great deal of respect for Dink, what he has accomplished in this industry and the brand that he has created. Our intention is to stay true to his vision while extending our reach into the military fetish niche.”
After 16 years at the helm, Active Duty founder Flamingo Dink Flamingo said he is happy to hand over the reins. He also said he’ll remain the lead content producer for the site.
“I’m very happy Active Duty has found a new home at Next Door Entertainment and the Buddy Profits program,” said the GAYVN and Grabby Awards Hall of Fame inductee. “It’s an honor to know that it will be managed alongside such premium brands as Next Door Studios, Falcon Studios, Raging Stallion, Hot House and so many others. In an ever-changing, high-stakes game like the adult entertainment industry, where it becomes survival of the fittest, it’s always a good idea to align yourself with the sharpest players at the table.
“I’ve always known that my true strength was recruiting the right talent to create a very popular product,” he continued. “I was never a marketing person or a business genius. I did the best I could with what I had. This deal will allow me to continue doing what I love most and leave the rest to the talented Buddy Profits team. Our combined talents will make Active Duty better than it’s ever been. I’m very excited about the future.”
Managing Director Hector Camacho said his staff is merging Flamingo Bucks and ActiveDuty.com into the Buddy Profits framework.
