Accused “Girls Gone Wild” Crew Member Released
SMITHTOWN, NY — In the never ending media circus that is the world of Girls Gone Wild, 37-year-old crew member, Matthew O’Sullivan has taken center stage – giving center ring veteran and company owner Joe Francis a brief break from being public morality enemy number one. O’Sullivan, accused of committing a first-degree sexual act, a B class felony with a possible 25 year maximum sentence, is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on September 29th, but is a free man in the meantime.
Released from a Suffolk jail without an indictment and without posting the $100,000 cash bail or $2000,000 bond associated with him, O’Sullivan chilled his heels from very early Wednesday until Monday. The man was arrested outside of a Smithtown bar after he was accused of attacking a 20-year-old bar patron who had boarded the infamous Girls Gone Wild tour bus after its crew finished filming a wet T-shirt contest at Nubar on West Main Street.
According to a Suffolk prosecutor, smooching and touching between Los Angeles based O’Sullivan and the unnamed local woman was entirely consensual, but once the action moved to the bus interior, “things turned non-consensual.”
O’Sullivan insists that he is innocent of forcibly removing the young woman’s clothing and holding her throat while he assaulted her, although police report that friends of the woman insist they interrupted the attack and waved down a police car to report the incident.
Suffolk District Attorney representative Robert Clifford told media that “After reviewing the facts and circumstances of Mr. O’Sullivan’s arrest, the district attorney’s office has determined this case warrants further investigation.”
Although O’Sullivan was released because the time limit for serving a felony indictment had expired, prosecutors believe that a grand jury may be called to review the facts of the case.
