Acacia to Hold Conference Call, Talk Fourth Quarter Earnings
NEWPORT BEACH, CA – Acacia Research Corporation will hold a conference call on Thursday, February 24th to discuss Fourth Quarter revenues and answer questions from callers. Both the Acacia Technologies Group and the CombiMatrix Group will offer a presentation followed by a Q&A session. Fourth Quarter financial results will be released that same day at the close of trading on the NASDAQ market. The first presentation will come from the Acacia Technologies Group at 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time. The Acacia Technologies Group is the branch of the Acacia Research Corporation that develops and acquires patents that it then attempts to license to third parties.
The Acacia Research Group made a splash in the adult entertainment business in 2003 when it first started to contact adult website operators with demands that they license its streaming media patent or face legal action. Acacia Vice President Rob Berman described adult website operators as “low-hanging fruit” when asked about the company’s unusual strategy. Some adult companies agreed to Acacia’s licensing terms, while others refused. Gregory Clayman, President of VS Media, Inc., and Spike Goldberg, President of New Destiny Video Group, the Internet Division of HomeGrown Video, contacted the prestigious law firm of Fish and Richardson and ultimately formed an industry Defense Group. The Defense Group is currently fighting Acacia’s patent claims in court.
A second presentation during the teleconference will come from the CombiMatrix Group at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time. This group is developing the ability to rapidly produce customizable active biochips, which could be used for a variety of medical and biological research purposes.
Those interested in participating in the conference call should dial (800) 262-1292 for domestic callers and (719) 457-2680 for international callers. Both types of callers will need to provide the operator with the confirmation code 8768414.
