The seminar was moderated by Kaiser from AdultNetSurprise, and the speakers included Aly from Python, Bill from ScoresCash and YNOTBob from YNOTMASTERS.
The seminar got started with some brief introductions and then entered into an open session with questions and comments targeting newbie needs. Since there were actually very few newbies in the crowd, the seminar jumped around covering a variety of topics and issues. Bill piqued everyone’s interest from newbie to industry veteran alike when he introduced his email marketing management program, Bighip.com. Bighip allows anyone who collects emails to mail them like the major email marketing companies, so even newbies who are just getting started can start creating their own mailing lists and have them professionally mailed and managed with comprehensive stats for a small monthly fee.
After briefly covering email marketing the seminar moved into marketing and communication with newbies. Aly stated that she felt our industry as a whole is not doing enough to effectively communicate with newbies. There was general agreement that many affiliate programs and adult online corporate websites assume too much when it comes to meeting the needs of new Webmasters. I think we all agreed that directing new Webmasters to Webmaster resource sites is an excellent step in helping them grow and sharpen their skills, but there was also the feeling that affiliate programs need to do more at a local level.
Towards the close of this conversation, I took a quick look around the room and I saw many industry veterans jotting down a reminder note for when they get back to their offices. I think a lot of people will be taking a hard look at their programs and websites to re-evaluate how effective they are at communicating with new Webmasters and new Webmaster sign ups.
The seminar then switched gears to discuss where to find new Webmasters and how to make them productive once you have them. One interesting strategy for finding new Webmasters was proposed by YNOT Bob. Bob suggested targeting active surfers and turning them into Webmasters. Several suggestions followed explaining how to turn new Webmasters into productive Webmasters. Sales people from the various affiliate programs preferred one-on-one communication and being readily available to answer questions and to offer help as needed. Of course, Webmaster resource sites were also mentioned. Kaiser mentioned that AdultNetSurprise offered trackable action items so Webmasters can easily stay organized and focused as they grow their individual businesses, and tools were also mentioned. Affiliate programs must be able to provide the necessary tools to allow their Webmasters to be successful.
The seminar then took another turn and moved into a discussion regarding “shaving”. We all basically agreed that whether shaving exists or not, the “bottom line” is the revenue that a program generates. Webmasters must continually track their performance through stats and go with the programs that make them the most money.
Aly wrapped up the seminar with the three E’s: Experiment, Experiment, Experiment! New Webmasters must experiment in order to gain knowledge and to find the combinations that will make them successful.
