25% of American Women Use Sex as a Bargaining Chip
YNOT – Guys, it’s not your imagination: A new survey from adult products retailer Adam & Eve indicates 25 percent of American women have used sex as a bargaining tool at least once.
Of course, turnabout is fair play, though apparently not on as grand a scale. When asked the same survey question — illustrated with the example, “I’ll agree to have sex if you mow the lawn/take me on vacation/etc.” — 15 percent of American men answered they’ve used the tactic, too.
“I would speculate that more women than men engage in this behavior simply because it often takes women longer to warm up for sex,” said Dr. Kat Van Kirk, resident sexpert for AdamAndEve.com. “The idea that they can get their partners to gladly take out the trash or walk the dog is appealing.
“If the bargaining is done in a playful way, it can be a fun part of a healthy sexual relationship,” she continued. “It’s when it becomes a means to an end that partners feel taken advantage of.”
The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third-party opinion-research firm, collected responses from more than 1,000 American adults age 18 and older. Sponsored by Adam & Eve, the most recent investigation was part of Adam & Eve’s continuing study of sexual practices and preferences.
“Adam & Eve encourages adults to explore all the aspects of positive sexuality within their own comfort zones,” said Director of Marketing Chad Davis. “We believe sexual education leads to a happier, more fulfilling sex life.”
