Adult Internet Pioneer Todd Ostrer Passes Away
YNOT – Adult internet pioneer Todd Allen Ostrer, better known in the industry as “sextoyking,” died Oct. 7 in Clackamas, Ore. He was 43. The cause of his death has not been made public.
Ostrer began his career in digital adult entertainment in 1990 as a founder of the pre-internet computer bulletin board system Rose City Online. In 1994, the BBS became one of the first internet service providers in the Portland, Ore., metropolitan area.
Ostrer’s other early adult endeavors included founding one of the first online resources for adult CDs, XXXCD.com, which shipped product worldwide. He also founded Adult.com and was among the pioneers in automating membership website sign-up and billing.
In the late 1990s, he co-founded the consumer-focused online toy stores SafeSexMall.com and SexToyWorld.com as well as the business-to-business resource Webinc.
Ostrer is survived by five daughters, his father, two sisters, a brother, a step-brother and a grandson.
A celebration of Ostrer’s life took place Oct. 15 in Gresham, Ore.
